Healthy Relationship Training

Audience: Youth and young adults (can be tailored for families) Format: Workshop-style with activities, open discussion, and reflection

🧠 Training Objectives

By the end of the session, participants will:

  • Understand what defines a healthy vs. unhealthy relationship
  • Learn how to set personal boundaries
  • Recognize red flags and green flags in relationships
  • Gain communication and conflict resolution tools
  • Leave with affirmations and self-care strategies that support self-love

🪞 SESSION OUTLINE

1. Welcome & Icebreaker – “Mirror Talk” (10 min)

Participants pair up and reflect one empowering word to their partner (e.g., “I see strength,” “You are worthy”).

Facilitator explains the importance of seeing ourselves and others with love and respect.

2. What is a Healthy Relationship? (15 min)

Define core relationship types: friendships, romantic, family, self

Interactive whiteboard/poster activity:
Healthy vs. Unhealthy Behaviors

Trust, communication, boundaries, respect

Control, jealousy, isolation, disrespect

Activity: Participants sort behaviors into two columns: GREEN FLAG 🚦 / RED FLAG 🚫

3. Let’s Talk Boundaries (10 min)

Crystal shares a story or example on setting healthy personal boundaries

Types of boundaries: physical, emotional, digital

Practice saying:
“That doesn’t work for me.”
“I need space.”
“Please don’t speak to me that way.”

4. Self-Worth + Self-Love Session – “Crown Check” 👑 (10 min)

Group affirmation activity: Each participant receives a mirror and a paper crown or sticker.

Say aloud:
“I deserve respect. I am enough. I honor my heart.”

Tie in the theme of Hairitage Day – embracing who we are, from our roots to our crowns.

5. Conflict & Communication: Real Talk Tools (10 min)

Teach the “I Feel” method:
“I feel __ when you __. I need __.”

Roleplay scenarios in small groups (friendship drama, family disagreement, online boundaries)

Discuss ways to de-escalate and be assertive without aggression

6. Reflection Circle: “Love Looks Like…” (5 min)

Each participant completes the sentence:
“Love looks like ___ to me.”

Share aloud or write on a community poster board

7. Closing Words + Resource Kit (Handout) (5 min)

Crystal shares final thoughts: “Your worth is not up for debate.”

Hand out mini wellness kits with:

Healthy relationship checklist

List of support resources (local therapists, hotlines, school counselors)

Mini affirmation cards

Mirrors or handouts with reflection activity

Sticky notes, pens, markers

Poster boards for group activities

Printed handouts (relationship green/red flags, boundary examples)

Optional: crowns/stickers for “Crown Check” session
