Tyrelle and Aisha Walker founded The Walker Foundation in response to a deeply personal experience with medical hair loss. In the early 2000s, Aisha’s mother suffered total hair loss due to alopecia, profoundly impacting her self-esteem and well-being. Witnessing her mother’s struggle, Aisha began creating wigs to help her regain confidence. This personal journey inspired the Walkers to assist others facing similar challenges, leading to the establishment of The Walker Foundation.
The foundation’s mission is to provide hair services and customized wigs to children experiencing hair loss from conditions like alopecia, lupus, and cancer. Additionally, it supports children in foster or adoptive care, inpatient children in hospitals, and underserved children in the community. Through initiatives like the “Wiggy Love” program, the foundation offers specialized wigs for children in hospitals, aiming to restore dignity and confidence during challenging times.
Beyond hair services, The Walker Foundation hosts events such as the Walker Foundation Kids Hair Fairs, providing hairstyling services and education to children and their families. These events not only offer practical support but also foster community and self-confidence among participants.
In essence, the Walkers transformed a personal hardship into a mission-driven organization, aiming to uplift and empower individuals facing hair loss and hair related challenges.

“Hairitage Day is a vibrant celebration of culture, confidence, and community. Created to honor the beauty and diversity of natural hair and heritage, our event brings people together to embrace their roots—literally and figuratively. We believe that hair tells a story, and through Hairitage Day, we amplify those stories with pride, purpose, and power.
From free hair services and workshops to cultural showcases, vendors, and family-friendly activities, Hairitage Day is more than just an event—it’s a movement. We are committed to uplifting underserved communities by providing resources, promoting self-love, and creating a space where everyone feels seen, heard, and celebrated.
At its core, Hairitage Day is about unity, empowerment, and expression. Join us as we honor the past, celebrate the present, and inspire the future—one curl, coil, and crown at a time.
The vision of Hairitage Day is deeply personal. Founders Tyrelle and Aisha attended the very first Hairitage Day when they were just 8 years old. That moment left a lasting mark—watching their culture come alive, embraced with joy, pride, and authenticity. Inspired by that experience, they knew one day they wanted to recreate and grow that feeling for generations to come. Today, Hairitage Day stands as a tribute to that spark and a celebration of everything it represents.
